Discipline Policy

Blueberry Daycare Discipline Policy

Discipline is:

✪  Individualized and consistent for each child
✪  Appropriate to the child’s level of understanding
✪  Directed toward teaching the child acceptable behavior and self-control.

Praise, reward, and encourage the children. Use corporal punishments such as hitting, spanking, shaking, biting, pinching, pushing, pulling, slapping or otherwise physically punish the child.
Reason with and set limits for the children. Make fun of, yell at, threaten, humiliate, make sarcastic remarks about, use profanity, or otherwise verbally abuse the children.
Model appropriate behavior and family values for the children. Deny food or rest as punishment.
Modify the environment to attempt to prevent problems before they occur. Leave the children alone, unattended or without supervision or place a child in a locked or dark room, bathroom, or closet with the door closed.
Communicate with children by getting down to their eye level and talking to them in a calm quiet manner about what behavior is expected. Criticize, make fun of, or otherwise belittle children’s parents, families, or ethnic groups.
Provide alternatives for inappropriate behavior to the children. Do not shame or punish the children when bathroom accidents occur.
