Blueberry Daycare Discipline Policy
Discipline is:
✪ Individualized and consistent for each child
✪ Appropriate to the child’s level of understanding
✪ Directed toward teaching the child acceptable behavior and self-control.

| Praise, reward, and encourage the children. | Use corporal punishments such as hitting, spanking, shaking, biting, pinching, pushing, pulling, slapping or otherwise physically punish the child. |
| Reason with and set limits for the children. | Make fun of, yell at, threaten, humiliate, make sarcastic remarks about, use profanity, or otherwise verbally abuse the children. |
| Model appropriate behavior and family values for the children. | Deny food or rest as punishment. |
| Modify the environment to attempt to prevent problems before they occur. | Leave the children alone, unattended or without supervision or place a child in a locked or dark room, bathroom, or closet with the door closed. |
| Communicate with children by getting down to their eye level and talking to them in a calm quiet manner about what behavior is expected. | Criticize, make fun of, or otherwise belittle children’s parents, families, or ethnic groups. |
| Provide alternatives for inappropriate behavior to the children. | Do not shame or punish the children when bathroom accidents occur. |
